If you're new to facials or looking for ways to enhance the results of your treatment, this guide will help you prepare, enjoy, and maintain the benefits long after you've left the studio.

How to Prepare for Your Facial Treatment

Preparing properly for your facial can make all the difference in the outcome of the treatment. Follow these tips to ensure you get the best results:

  • Fill out forms in advance
Complete any requested forms at least 72 hours prior to your treatment. This gives me enough time to reach out if I need to follow up with any questions.

  • Avoid exfoliators and harsh products
Steer clear of exfoliants and strong skincare ingredients like retinol 48 hours before your treatment. These can make your skin more sensitive, potentially impacting how your skin responds to the treatment. If you use Tretinoin, pause it one week before your appointment to avoid irritation during the facial. (Please check my FAQ ‘contraindications’ for further information about acne creams, pills or other medication)

  • Avoid other beauty treatments
In the days or weeks leading up to your appointment, avoid contrary treatments such as waxing, micro-blading, lash/brow lifts, spray tans etc that could conflict with the facial. Also avoiding at home shaving and plucking facial hair a minimum of 24hrs before a treatment. Please check my FAQ ‘contraindications’ for further information about botox and fillers).

  • Minimise sun exposure
Protect your skin from the sun and avoid sunbeds before your appointment. Freshly sun-exposed skin can be more sensitive, reducing the benefits of your facial.

  • Take note of your current skincare routine
Make a list or snap a photo of the products you're currently using, we will be discussing this during your consultation.

  • Document your skin concerns
If you have specific concerns or experience skin flare-ups, take photos of your skin on different days. This gives me insight into your skin's needs and how it responds to various factors.

  • Avoid booking new treatments before big events
I always recommend doing a trial run of any beauty treatments you are considering having before an important occasion or event like a wedding. This is so we can see how your skin responds, ensure the products suit you and figure out when you see the best results following treatment. While my treatments don’t require any down time, everyone's skin responds differently.

On the Day of Your Treatment

The day of your treatment is all about relaxation and setting yourself up for a great experience. Here’s how you can prepare for the best possible outcome:

  • Dress comfortably
Wearing loose, comfortable clothing. A vest top is ideal as the treatment extends to your neck, shoulders, and even into your hair, so you'll want to be at ease and avoid any restrictive clothing.

  • Come with a clean face
Arrive with a makeup-free face so I can easily see your skin and start the treatment promptly.

  • Skip the fresh hairstyle
The treatment may continue into your scalp, so there’s no need to have freshly styled hair before the appointment.

  • Avoid alcohol and caffeine
Refrain from drinking alcohol before your appointment. Try to avoid caffeine and sugary drinks for a few hours prior, as they can make you feel jittery and less relaxed during the treatment.

  • Eat light
Avoid having a big meal directly before your facial. A light snack is perfect to keep you comfortable during your session.

  • Arrive on time
Showing up promptly ensures you get the full treatment time. This will allow for a relaxed, unhurried experience.

  • Do not disturb on
Set your phone to silent and turn off the vibrate mode to fully disconnect and immerse yourself in the experience.

  • Remove jewellery
Necklaces, earrings, and other jewellery can get in the way during the facial. It’s best to leave them at home or take them off before the session.

  • Use the bathroom
Taking care of this before the session helps you stay relaxed throughout.

After the Treatment: Maximising Results

Post-facial care is essential for maintaining your results and ensuring your skin glows for days:

  • Avoid exfoliants and harsh products
Refrain from using exfoliators or harsh products for 48 hours after your facial to give your skin time to rejuvenate. If you use Tretinoin, wait one more week before reintroducing it into your skincare routine.

  • Avoid further treatments
Skip other beauty treatments for at least 48 hours to avoid overloading your skin. Avoid shaving and plucking hair too for 24hrs.

  • Stay sun-safe
Avoid direct sun exposure, and if you need to go outside, make sure to reapply sunscreen.

  • Skip makeup and active products
Let your skin breathe for the remainder of the day by avoiding makeup and any active skincare ingredients in your home products.

  • Avoid sweating
Hold off any intense exercise, swimming, steam rooms, or saunas for the rest of the day.

  • Avoid alcohol
Alcohol can hit you harder after a facial, so it's best to avoid it post-treatment.

  • Hydrate and nourish
Drink plenty of water to flush out toxins, eat a balanced diet to nourish your body from the inside out.

  • Sleep on a clean pillow case

Pillow cases are a great place for bacteria to thrive (they are in dark and warm spaces full of dirt, sweat, oil, pollution and dust). Give your refreshed, glowing skin the best chance to rejuvenate and sleep on a clean pillowcase!

  • Rest and rejuvenate

Treat yourself to a relaxed, early night or put your feet up and let someone else do the cooking!

Long-Term Skin Health: Maintaining Your Glow

Achieving long-term skin health isn’t just about one facial. For the best results:

  • Holistic approach
Prioritise stress management, sleep, hydration, and a balanced diet. These factors all play a key role in your skin’s health and appearance.

  • Consistent skincare routine
Having a solid and tailored skincare routine is key. I can help you develop one that works with your skin goals and lifestyle.

  • Regular treatments
If you have a specific skin goal or are preparing for an event like a wedding, regular facials will be more beneficial than a one-off treatment.
