All you need to know about Buccal Massage
In a world of self-care and beauty treatments, there's always something new and exciting to explore. Buccal massage has been gaining popularity; particularly in the natural beauty area! From i’s youth boosting results (without the need for invasive procedures), to its overall affect on our well-being, it’s a great holistic treatment! If you are curious and want to know more, you're in the right place. Here I'll guide you through everything you need to know about Buccal massage.
What is Buccal Massage:
Buccal massage, also known as inter-oral massage, is a specialised facial treatment that involves gentle, targeted massage of the inner cheeks, lips, and jawline. During this treatment, a trained therapist will gently massage inside your mouth wearing a pair of sterile gloves. Using a combination of advanced manual massage techniques, the pressure can be adjusted to the individual and is normally comfortable and relaxing. As this can be a very sensitive area for some people (particularly those who hold a lot of tension, suffer with TMJ, clench or grind their teeth) you may feel a little discomfort initially (but it should never feel painful). The release you feel afterwards is worth it when you feel like a whole new person!
The Benefits and Results of Buccal Massage:
By massaging the buccal area (the inside of your mouth) muscles are accessed that normally cannot be reached from the outside. Not only is this great for releasing and reducing tension, but it also improves circulation by stimulating blood flow and lymphatic drainage. You should notice visible lifting results from the muscles being stretched and massaged, with a more defined jawline and plumped cheek bones. It can even release congestion and blockages found in the jaw area caused by stagnant lymph.
Results may vary from person to person, but most clients notice immediate benefits, with full lymphatic drainage results appearing 24-48hrs later, once fluid is fully drained. After a Buccal massage you can expect to see a noticeable improvement in your skins overall appearance. Your face will look more sculpted, relaxed and glowing. Fine lines and puffiness will diminish, and you'll feel revitalised and rejuvenated.
To maximise the benefits of a buccal massage, it's essential to follow a few aftercare tips. Avoid sun exposure and wear sunscreen. Staying hydrated is crucial, as it helps flush toxins from your body. Ensure that in the evening you eat a balanced diet, followed by a gentle skincare routine. It is also recommended to avoid alcohol, intense exercise and steam!
Who this Treatment is Good For:
Buccal massage is suitable for a wide range of people. It is an intense treatment and I would suggest it’s best suited to those who are no stranger to facials. If you're looking to improve the tone and texture of your skin and reduce the signs of ageing through sculpting; this treatment is perfect for you. It's also excellent for those struggling with jaw clenching, grinding and TMJ.
Buccal Massage in Brighton:
Buccal massage is incorporated into my Sculpt Lift and Release treatment. This advanced treatment starts with a facial massage using precise lifting, stretching, toning, sculpting and draining techniques. Working with my hands deep into the face muscles and across the neck and chest (think of this facial as a deep tissue massage for the face). It’s really important to ‘warm up’ the masseter and buccal muscles from the outside before moving inside, because as well as releasing tension in the neck, shoulders and chest, it’s also closely interlinked with the jaw. The inter-oral part of the treatment lasts around 20-30minutes of the 2hr treatment. This facial is finished off with some rejuvenating LED light therapy and high performance product layering. It may also include some facial cupping and microcurrent depending on your skins needs and goals.
Please note buccal massage is not suitable for those who are in the first trimester of pregnancy, have facial threads, severe acne, wear braces or have had recent dental work/surgery. There must also be a longer gap after botox and fillers before treatment - 4 weeks for botox and 3 months for fillers.
